What Did you see Princess?

The hooded princess lead them through the dimly lit cavern, a guard with them as they walked brisklythrough a seemingly endless tunnel. At last it opened up to a wider chamber. At the back of the room was a fountain of some kind, filled with a softly glowing liquid.

In front of it were two crystaline pillars unlike anything they had seen in the caves yet. The Mario brothers took a step forward intending to get a better look, but the guard stopped them. "No, only the Princess can enter during a reading." He said.

Mario and Luigi exchanged a confused glance, but then Princess Amarante approached the fountain, taking off her gloves and pulling her hood down as she did. She placed both hands on the edge with her fingers dipped into the liquid and started to murmur.

Her back was to them, but this was the first either brother had seen Amarante with her hood down, and they looked back to the guard. "Should we leave?" Luigi asked, knowing that the mysterious princess did not appear to like having people see her without her hood.

"She let you come this far, just wait." Was the reply.

Amarante's muttering became louder and the whole room seemed to hum. Slowly, the torches on the wall changed color, going from a natural red orange flame to blue. Inside the crystal pillars, this same fire seemed to burn. The brother's watched on in amazement. They began to wonder exactly what kind of power was hidden here in the Void.

Then Amarane's muttering stopped and she was silent, staring into the liquid. Suddenly she gasped and stumbled back. A gust of wind seemed to blow out from the fountain, knocking her further away. The guard rushed forward and caught her, "Princess!" He exclaimed, clearly not expecting what had happened. Mario and Luigi rushed forward too, the guard grabbed Amarante's hood and pulled it back up to hide her face from the brothers.

Just in time, whatever had knocked her out passed, and the girl came too with a soft moan. "Princess, are you alright?" He asked.

"Princess, are you alright?" She echoed back, and sat up, adjusting her hood a little.  She was fine. Her arms were shaking, the guard put his hand on her shoulder reassuringly.

"What did you see Princess?" He asked.

The brothers were not expecting her to answer with anything more than another echo, but  Amarante turned her head to the guard and raised her finger to his lips in a silencing motion. She was quite for another moment before giving an eerie response.

"Nothing. I saw Nothing."

I meant to upload this a while back sorry. A fun little teaser for Amarante, her story, her powers, all of which are still not fully developed but I couldn't get this scene out of my head!
